Saunders Roe SR A1
Origin: Great Britain
First Flight: 1947
Retired: 1951
Type: Seaplane Fighter
Speed: 512 mph
Armament: four 20mm canons & two 1000lb bombs or rockets
Based on the Blackburn B.44 (My last post) the SR A1 was one of the planes succes expirienced by the some of the Japanese seaplane fighters such as the A6M2-N. British made the plane which was suited in the Pacific Theater in WWII as a Jet naval fighter. The design was supposed to be using a Piston engine, instead the Saunders Roe aircraft company made the aircraft with a Jet engine. However the aircraft was to late for WWII and its first flight was in 1947 (Two years after WWII). There was some problems with the aircrafts which the pilot had a poor view because of the frame in the engine and also the jet engine parts were limited. The last prototype flew in 1951. This plane also competes with the US Convair Sea Dart.
although the plane dosent have any proper nickname, the company worker called it the 'Squirt'.

when the Japanese succeded in the Pacific, the British needed a fighter to fight the Japanese and which can be used in each islands. The design starts in 1942, the seaplane was designed with a reatractable floats which splits the lower fuselage floats with an hydraulic. They used the Napier Sabre engine which is installed in the nose of the aircraft and the armament are mounted in the wings. Unfortunately the projects was stopped due to limited supplies and serious controls in stability.
